Measure your website journey before increasing ad spend

Follow the steps from a real visit to an enquiry or payment, and improve one part at a time.

Choose an outcome that means something

A page view, account registration and paid order are different outcomes. Decide which one matters for your business. For a service website it may be a verified enquiry; for a subscription product it is a successful payment. Keep test activity and free previews separate from sales.

Keep each source identifiable

Use consistent campaign links so you can distinguish search advertisements, social posts and referral traffic. Add the measurement identifiers supported by your project settings and check the published site. Respect the visitor’s consent choices; some visits cannot be matched to an advertising source.

Test the journey before paying for more visits

Open the advertisement’s destination on a phone. Confirm that the language, offer and next step match the advertisement. Test the enquiry or checkout flow and check that events are recorded once. Missing measurements, slow pages and broken links should be investigated before a budget increase.

Improve one thing, then compare real results

Compare the cost of actual outcomes, not just cheap clicks. Change one headline, image or page element at a time so the result is easier to interpret. Allow for reporting delays and small samples. No creative, bidding setting or website builder can guarantee a fixed acquisition cost or profit.
